On Sat, Oct 26, 2002, ocool wrote: [...] > 1. 那些字型的意義值不值得翻？會不會翻出來之後更容易造成大家的誤解？實在是查不到的，就不翻沒有關係，留白比翻錯好。其實，翻錯也是免不了的啦！所以才要維護。:) > 2. 如果要翻，也是有幾個問題想跟果正兄討教一下，問題我就直接寫在HTML檔內免 > 得自己說半天可能果正兄還不知道我的問題是什麼，也將pot檔內容改成html格式比 > 較容易標示文字。我想這是由於大家都都喜用調合字(比例字)的關係，一般使用純文字工具習慣的朋友，都是使用固定字，這樣畫簡單的標示就不會出錯了。而且現在的 email client 都會有 word wrap 的功能，很方便，但對使用純文字 email client 的朋友，一收到就亂掉了，就像這封信，我是利用 vim 重排過的(gqap)。像我這封信，最好是用固定字來看，也取消 word wrap，否則很可能就亂掉了。 > 覺得果正兄在使用Tex/LaTeX的過程中，對字型應該也會有相當的研究所以冒昧的想 > 跟您討論，果正兄如果覺得必要的話，也可以直接回到 mail list 我是半瓶水響叮噹。:-) 字型的邏輯結構命名本就很亂，各製造商及應用軟體作者及不同字型種類可能都會有差異。以 X 而言的話，那就是照 XLFD(X Logical Font Description) 的命名方式，TeX 又有另一套(比較偏向排版)。 * http://www.x-docs.org/ 可以找得到(xlfd.pdf)。 Family 一般我是翻成「字族」。通常指的就是字型名稱。 Foundry 這是字型製造商。 Weight 指的是字型的比重，medium 就是正常，bold 就是粗體。XLFD 把 regular 歸類在 medium。 Slant 指的是斜體，而且指的是由正常字直接去「斜」，而不是像 italic 那種義大利斜體，一般用在數理式子或程式的參數上。這個有點亂，個人是把 Slant 翻成數理斜體，而 italic 翻成義大利斜體。不講究的話就通通翻成斜體應該也是可以。但在 XLFD 裡頭，slant 通指斜體，包括 italic/oblique，這只是字型設計的不同。 * Knuth 教授在他的 TeXBook 裡頭早就指出，slant 和 italic 的不同。但 XLFD 這裡指的，大概是指是否傾斜的意思。 Monospaced/fixed 不深入追究的話，可通通翻成固定字。就是每個字母的寬度是相等的。就是 XLFD 的 m 或 c(cell，這是固定字，但會將每個字母當成一個 cell 來處理)。 Proportional 翻成比例或調合皆可。指的是每個字母的寬度不等，以符合字體美學。 Light 一般指的就是細，例如細明體之類的。這是字族的命名，視製造廠商而定，XLFD 不用。 semi/demi 我也不知道要怎麼翻，這些指的都是字型寬度。 * demi 和 semi 在 XLFD 似乎是不分的。 heavy 在 XLFD 是歸類在 extrabold，就是特粗體(?，我亂翻的)。 book 在 XLFD 是歸類在 semilight，極細(?)。 black 在 XLFD 是歸類在 ultrabold，極粗(?)。 * 打問號的都是我亂翻的。以相對比重(RELATIVE_WIDTH)而言，以下是 XLFD 的分類： Code English Translation Description 0 Undened Undened or unknown 10 UltraLight The lowest ratio of stem width to height 20 ExtraLight 30 Light 40 SemiLight SemiLight, Book, ... 50 Medium Medium, Normal, Regular,... 60 SemiBold SemiBold, DemiBold, ... 70 Bold 80 ExtraBold ExtraBold, Heavy, ... 90 UltraBold UltraBold, Black, ..., the highest ratio of stem width to height 抱歉，我也搞不是很清楚要怎麼翻，所以 Cc 一份到 list，大家討論看看。李果正 ps.這裡指的是 kfile_font.po 的翻譯。
